50TH INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY LOGO AND THEME LAUNCHED

The government has officially launched the 50th Independence Anniversary Logo and Theme, “CELEBRATE OUR HISTORY, INSPIRE OUR FUTURE,” for the country’s Independence Celebrations.
The launching highlighted ongoing preparations for the upcoming event’s activities for 16th September 2025. There is a team of hard-working Papua New Guineans and public servants who worked tirelessly to make this a special event and to ensure success for all.
The program was held at the Parliament House on 30 January, 2025, coincidently the day of the passing of one of the PNG’s Former Prime Minister, and founding fathers, Sir Julius Chan.
Prime Minister Hon. James Marape, officiated the launching, paid tribute to Late Sir Julius Chan.
“One of the last men – the last man standing in as far as Members of Parliament are concerned, belonged to the class of 1975, passes on today”.
“Sir Julius was a Member of the House of Representatives in 1968 and 1972 – House of Assembly. He belonged to the generation of Papua New Guineans, who stood with Grand Chief Sir Michael Thomas Somare, and they ushered in our country’s independence in 1975”.
Marape expressed sadness that Sir Julius Chan, who had worked so hard for Papua New Guinea, would not be with us on our 50th anniversary. He would have loved to see the program continue, but unfortunately, God has called him home to rest.
The event was attended by Members of Parliament, Diplomatic Cops, Head of Organization and invited distinguish guests.
