DEPARTMENT AIMS HIGH TO UPSKILL FOREIGN SERVICE OFFICERS

Roselyn MASO and Amy KULI of the Department of Foreign Affairs proudly received the JICA’s SDG Global Leader Scholarship Program in 2022

The Department is grateful to our long partner JICA for its continued support through grants, exchange programs, donations and scholarships to Papua New Guinea.

The department continues to benefit from the JICA through long and short term training programs and scholarships.

Below are feature stories of officers currently undergoing Master’s program in Japan under the JICA and MEXT Scholarships.

Foreign Service Officer, Ms. Josephine Bade

Josephine Bade is currently studying for her Masters at the Niigata University in Japan.

Josephine works under the Regional Economic Arrangements Branch of the Multilateral and Development Cooperation Division at the Department of Foreign Affairs. Her role involves policy coordination of various regional arrangements.

Josephine’s area of study is International Relations with a special focus on fisheries.

She believes in the need to encourage more PNG women and girls to further their education.

Ms. Bade left the for her studies in April 2022 and is expected to complete her study later this year.

Foreign Affairs promote Gender equality, as more women are encouraged and sent off for studies.

Roselyn undertook studies at Ritsumeiken Asia Pacific University whilst Amy at the International University of Japan. Both joined the other Papua New Guineans who were accepted in the 2021 intake, to pursue Master’s/PhD Course at some of the prestigious universities in Japan.

Ms. Amy Kuli 

Amy Kuli is a Foreign Service Officer with the Border and Security Cooperation division. Amy successfully graduated with a Master’s Degree in International Relations at the International University of Japan under the SDGs scholarship program.


Apart from studying, Amy also provided support to other international students by offering them private tutoring classes in English. The tutoring has helped a Laotian student to complete her research paper in June 2022.

Foreign Service Officer, Suzi Maki

Ms. Suzie Maki is studying for her Master’s in International Relations at the International University of Japan under the SDGs Global Leadership Program.

Suzie is a Foreign Service Officer attached with the International Economic Arrangement Branch under the Multilateral Development Cooperation Division. Her line of work is aligned with international economic forums such as the world trade organization, United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and other international commodity bodies.

Suzie also believes that women are equal contributors to the country’s development aspirations. Hence, she strongly encourages young women to take on opportunities to further their studies.

 

She left the country for her studies to Japan in May 2022 and is expected to complete her studies and return back to PNG to contribute in her capacity as Foreign Service Officer to the Department and the country.
