MINISTER TKATCHENKO OFFICIAL VISIT TO CHINA
Picture: Foreign Minister Justin Tkatchenko visited a school together with the Governor of Guangdong Province and Deputy Party Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Guangdong Committee, Mr. Wang Weizhong on the 28th March 2023.
The PNG Foreign Affairs Minister Hon. Justin Tkatchenko has visited People’s Republic of China on a six days official visit.
The visits which commenced on Tuesday 28 March 2023 saw Minister Tkatchenko held important bilateral discussions with the Governor of Guangdong Province and Deputy Party Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Guangdong Committee, Mr. Wang Weizhong.
The meeting allowed both leaders to discuss bilateral objectives for engagements in the areas of trade and investment cooperation, socio-economic development and other areas of engagement including people-to-people links, between PNG and Guangdong Province.
Governor Wang confirmed that there are some numbers of Guangdong companies operating in PNG, and he further encouraged both countries to engage in more investment and trade relations. Mr. Wang then invited PNG to showcase its trade products at the 133rd China Import and Export Fair on 3 April to 15 May 2023.
The discussions also recognized importance of the establishment of sister city relation like Shenzhen and PNG’s National Capital District. This relation has enhanced the bilateral cooperation between PNG and China in various sectoral engagements. The leaders also agreed to establish sister-city relation between Guangzhou and Lae City as well.
Apart from the discussion with Governor Wang, Minister Tkatchenko also visited the Guangzhou Pharmaceutical Holdings Limited company who specialized in the production of Chinese medicines, botanical drugs, chemical raw materials and other processed Chinese items like the famous Wong Lo Kat Tea generally referred to as the Chinese coca cola.
Other discussion on the outcome of bilateral relations between PNG and China includes; educational services like Butuka Academy in Port Moresby South. Minister Tkatchenko confirmed that the school was built by the China Steel company where it become a school of excellence and enrolling over 3, 800 students every year.
Minister Tkatchenko further welcomed Guangdong’s support to PNG in other areas such as Ramu Hydro project where PNG Government will support the initiative.
