PNG TO OPEN HEAD OF MISSION IN THAILAND
Papua New Guinea is a key development partner to Thailand and it will work towards strengthening its cooperation in all areas.
This was the message conveyed by Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to Papua New Guinea, Her Excellency, Ms Arjaree Sriratanaban, during her visit to Foreign Affairs Minister Hon. Justin Tkatchenko MP, on April 9, 2025.
H.E. Ms Sriratanaban was in the country to present her Letter of Credential to the Governor General of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea, His Excellency, Grand Chief Sir Bob Bofeng Dadae.
Ms Sriratanaban welcomed the commitment of the Government of Papua New Guinea to open the Embassy in Bangkok, adding that it was a major milestone.
“Things are going well for the formalities to establish the Embassy as approval for the land allocation has been given.”
“We look forward to welcoming you in Thailand and that will bring more high-level extensions of visits to bring our ties closer as well.”
H.E. Ms Sriratanaban said in the area of cooperation, Thailand can expand opportunities for economic and trade investment, cooperation in agriculture and fisheries, disaster management, climate change, tourism and other areas of interest to PNG. Ms Sriratanaban acknowledged PNG’s interest to join Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN), adding that there is a process through the ASEAN Charter.
“We hope to see PNG engage with ASEAN, it is a stepping stone as PNG is in the position to help link Asia and
Pacific. “
“For Thailand we are the dialogue partner of the Pacific Island Forum in areas of development cooperation and technical exchanges.”
“Thailand and PNG would like to be friends with other countries to see peace in our regions enabling regional environment to uplift the lives of our people,” she said.

“We are happy that you have approved our land allocation and we can move forward and make it happen for Thailand and PNG.”
“PNG is very strategically positioned in the world where we are half in the Indo-Pacific and half in the South East Asia.”
“We are keen to expand our trade investments, knowledge and economy with South East Asia and that’s why we have set up the embassy in Thailand.”
